Fast, Reliable, Safe & Cost Effective

The Zodiac/DBC Marine Evacuation Chute (MEC) System is fast becoming known as the most efficient, easy-to-use, flexible, and cost-effective Marine Evacuation System available in the world today. As a gravity-launch system, the Marine Evacuation System evacuates passengers and crew with the utmost safety in the shortest possible time.

How It Works
A fabric descent chute and inflatable platform are stored in a compact housing either on the evacuation deck (inside or outside the vessel) or unobtrusively on the deck above (see the figures and pictures below). During an emergency, a crew-member releases the MEC with a pull of a handle. The chute and platform fall to the water and the platform automatically inflates. At the same time, the liferafts are launched from their racking system, inflated and attached to the platform. Passengers enter the chute by way of the housing and safely descend to the platform. They are then dry-transferred to the liferafts with the rescue boats standing by to assist.

Zodiac/DBC's MEC System takes up very little space on deck. The chute housing is compact, and the liferafts are tidily stored on rack out of the way of passenger or crew traffic.

The Benefits of DBC's MEC System Are Clear:

  • Extremely easy to use
The system is designed for maximum efficiency with minimum effort. Zodiac/DBC offers extensive crew training, however the system is less complicated to operate, with fewer crew than other systems.

  • Safety built in
All components of the system are fully adjustable to accommodate all wind, weather, and sea conditions. The zig-zag design of the chute ensures the safe descent of passengers. The chute also has a protective cover and fender system which guards passengers against environmental hazards including contact with the ship or effects of smoke and heat from a fire.

  • Flexibility is key
Because Zodiac/DBC's system is lightweight, compact, and easily mounted without a major alterations, it will fit on both existing and new designs of vessels. It can also be easily transferred from vessel to vessel.

  • The best solution for the least money
The initial investment in an MEC System as well as the cost of installation, maintenance and service is significantly lower than other types of marine evacuation systems.

  • First time, every time
The MEC System is much less complex than other evacuation systems. The combination of simple yet sophisticated design and the high quality of each component assures system reliability. Turnaround for any service that is required can be within 24 hours.

  • One supplier you can trust
Zodiac/DBC's MEC System is a complete end to end system manufactured to SOLAS requirements. Zodiac/DBC ensures all components of the system are designed to be of the highest quality and will work effectively with all other components of the system.

  • Worldwide Servicing
Zodiac/DBC offers ship owners full maintenance contracts on demands. Our Service Administrator will work with your company to find a servicing schedule that will work for your particular situation all around the world.

The pull of a lever is all it takes to quickly and easily begin deployment of the chute and platform.

While the chute falls to the water and the platform inflates, the crew simply open the doors of the housing to provide an entrance way to the chute. In less than five minutes the system is ready to transfer passengers.

Liferafts are secured to the platform at the base of the chute. Passengers descend through the chute for dry transfer to the liferafts while the rescue boat stands by to assist.
